Wordtune is a revolutionary new AI writing assistant that allows you to get the most out of your writing. It is designed to help you improve your writing skills by giving you feedback on your writing style, grammar, and spelling. But is it really the best AI writing assistant for you in 2022?
In this review, we will take a look at what features Wordtune has to offer and how it can help you improve your writing. We will also compare Wordtune to other alternatives and competitors in the market.
What is Wordtune?
Wordtune is an AI writing assistants that provides you with feedback on your writing style, grammar, and spelling. Unlike other AI writing assistants, Wordtune is built with deep-AI technology that allows it to understand the context of your writing and provide you with more accurate feedback. Wordtune was founded in 2018 by Yoav Shoham, Amnon Shashua, and Ori Goshen who run AI21 Labs.
Wordtune features
Wordtune offers a robust set of features that will help you write better. The Wordtune product team also seem to be constantly adding new features to help enhance the tool even more.
Here are some of the features that Wordtune offers:
Rewrite
Rewrite is the core feature of Wordtune which lets you easily explore alternative ways to rephrase a single word, a whole sentence or even an entire paragraph. It should be noted that Paragraph Rewrite is only available via a Premium subscriptions currently. Rewrite works both in the Wordtune Editor and across the web through the browser extension.
Casual and Formal Tones
This Wordtune feature lets you choose between a more casual tone or something a little more formal sounding. If you are using the Wortune Editor, all you need to do is highlight a sentence and click either the casual or formal option at the top of the editor and your text will be prompted with a few recommendations. You can also use this feature through the browser extension.
Shorten and Expand
This Wordtune feature lets you either shorten or expand a selected sentence. It's useful if you've written too much and would like to make your text more concise. You can also use this feature to expand upon a sentence if you have writer's block and need a little help.
Smart Synonyms
This Wordtune feature lets you highlight a word and provides you with a list of synonyms that better fit your sentence. Wordtune's sophisticated AI technology understands the context of the sentence, so it will only offer synonyms that sound natural in the context of that particular phrase.
Wordtune Spices
Wordtune Spices are a new set of AI writing tools introduced in 2023 to help enhance your writing. With Spices, you can ask the AI to expand on a sentence, give an example, provide statistics or give analogies. This gives you a lot more control over your content than other AI tools that simply generates all the content for you.
Recommendations and Corrections
When using the Wordtune editor, you will be shown a list of recommendations and grammar checks on the right-hand side of the editor as you write. We found this to be a really useful feature when writing long form content in the editor.
Translate
A neat feature we found when using Wordtune is the ability to rephrase a word of sentence in a foreign language. For example in the screenshot below, I have written hello in Mandarin and the Rewrite prompt has offered me a few suggestions in English. We found this to be a particularly helpful feature of non-native English speakers.
Wordtune Read
Wordtune Read is a new AI product launched by the team in early 2022, that allows users to summarize long documents or URLs to help you consume content faster.
Browser extensions
Wordtune also offers a number of browser extensions to help you with your writing across the web. Wordtune is currently available as a Chrome Extensions and as an Edge Add-on.

How much does Wordtune cost?

Jasper vs Wortune
Jasper is an AI writing assistant that is often compared to Wordtune. In our opinion, Wordtune is a tool that aims to help you write correctly without making any grammatical errors, whereas Jasper is more focused on assisting with copywriting for various sorts of content, including blogs, advertisements, product descriptions and more. Nevertheless, the two tools have some overlapping features such as rephrasing and grammar checks (Jasper has an integration with Grammarly).
Jasper has a generous 10,000 word free trial available if you'd like to try it out. Otherwise, you can learn more by reading our Jasper review which goes into more details.
Rytr vs Wordtune
Rytr is another AI writing assistant that some people compare to Wordtune. Like Jasper, Rytr is more of a tool that helps with copywriting for things like blogs, ads and a lot more. Nevertheless, Rytr does have some overlapping features with Wordtune such as a browser extension which allows you use the tool across the web.
Rytr has a decent free plan available if you'd like to trial the tool. Otherwise, you can learn more by reading our Rytr review which goes into more detail about the tool.
Our verdict
Overall, we think Wordtune is a great tool for anyone wanting to improve their writing skills and avoid making grammatical errors. The well-designed browser extension and integration with Microsoft Word makes it really easy to use, and we love the real-time suggestions features.
The only downside is that some of the features offered by other AI writing assistants, such as plagiarism checking and citation generation, are not yet available on Wordtune. However, we think that these features will be added in time.
Finally, we think the pricing for Wordtune Premium at $9.99 USD per month is reasonable considering the value you get from the tool.
